She graduated first in her law school class, Suma Cum Laude from Willamette University in 2001, and received the Roy Lockenour Award for Professional Responsibility. She served as the Associate Editor of the Willamette Law Review and was the recipient of scholarship and high paper awards, as well as honors in trial practice. Shortly before graduating from Willamette, Ms. Hamby began prosecuting for the Marion County District Attorney’s Office in Salem Oregon as a court-certified law clerk. She charged and prosecuted juvenile offenders, and managed a juvenile case-load with an emphasis on diversion and rehabilitation rather than incarceration. After returning to Alaska, Ms. Hamby practiced with Hughes Bauman Pfiffner Gorski & Seedorf, LLC, working in general litigation with a focus on products liability and insurance defense. During that period she was a contributing editor for both the Tort Law Desk Reference, and Products Liability Desk Reference from 2003 through 2005. Since joining Clapp, Peterson, Van Flein, Tiemessen, and Thorsness, Ms. Hamby has focused on professional malpractice, employment law, and professional licensing. Ms. Hamby has served as adjunct faculty for the University of Alaska, instructing students in business law and LSAT preparation. She is currently a member of the Bar Tutoring Committee, assisting applicants in preparing for the Alaska Bar Exam. Ms. Hamby also provides training to the EMS community both locally in Fairbanks (Steese Volunteer Fire Department Training Seminar, 2008, Interior Region EMS Symposium, 2003 and 2007) as well as State-wide (State EMS Symposium presentation, 2004 and 2005).
